Shoes:
Running shoes or cross training shoes are recommended and should be sufficient for most athletes. Track spikes are not required and will not be allowed to be used (even with the spikes removed) at Hershey Track and Field Meets. Spikes are allowed at other meets and the majority of athletes will have them. A good alternative to track spikes for those who want to purchase a lighter shoe designed for racing may want to consider what is termed a performance neutral running shoe or racing flat. These are lighter versions of running shoes that have more cushioning and stability than track spikes. A running store such as Road Runner Sports in Worthington or online, Second Sole in Gahanna, The Columbus Running Company in Pickerington, or FrontRunner on W. Lane Avenue should be able to assist in purchasing these shoes.

Coaches:

Head Coach, Steve Hyme, holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification. He is a USATF registered coach and has completed a USATF background screening.

Assistant Head Coach Samone Melson also holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification. He is a USATF registered coach who has completed his USATF background screening.

Erin Berlekamp has done a tremendous job working with our high jumpers. Erin competed in the heptathlon at Ohio University and we are very fortunate to have someone with her track background working with our youth.

Fay Barry is the high school throws coach and her work with some of our throwers has benefited them tremendously.

Watkins Memorial High School Head Coach Marty Dahlman is the head off WW Track Club and we'll be seeing Marty and some of the high school athletes practicing and helping with the youth track program

Several parents help out at each practice. Their time and effort is greatly appreciated as we could never hold the types of practices we do without their assistance.
